More than 40 different treatments have been suggested for lateral epicondylitis, which is a strain injury to the enthesis, specifically carpi radialis brevis. Study to determine how effective common treatment regimens are for tennis elbow. Studied were 36 patients, age 36-66, mean complaint duration of 17.69 weeks (3-156 weeks). Patients were split into four groups who received acemetacin or local triamcinolone injection as well as epicondylitis bandage, or epicondylitis bandage and local injection alone. Using a Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) pain at rest and during resistive wrist extension was determined using a hand dynomometer, grip strength was measured. Tenderness over the lateral epicondyle was determined before and after treatment. Most effective remedy appears to be use of local triancinoline, along with epicondylitis bandage.
