CRD SUMMARY:

The review concluded avoidance of high-risk antibiotics (such as clindamycin, cephalosporins, monobactams, carbapenems, and fluoroquinolones) in favour of lower-risk antibiotics (such as penicillins, macrolides and tetracyclines) may help reduce the incidence of Clostridium difficile infection in the community setting. These conclusions reflect the evidence and seem appropriate; limitations of the evidence base should be borne in mind.
