Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common cause of cardioemboligenic ischemic stroke (IS). Patients with cardioemboligenic IS and AF often present with more severe neurological deficit associated with the occlusion of the large cerebral artery, worse clinical outcome and higher mortality. Especially paroxysmal form of AF is high risky, because it is usually not being registered during a routine electrocardiogram (ECG) examination. The aim was to assess the benefit of the early 24-hour Holter-ECG monitoring in patients with ischemic stroke and a negative history of AF.
